Peter da Silva was born and raised in the Boston area and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz and African American Music Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Through his studies, he is comfortable in both conventional jazz and classical aesthetics, from interpreting the work of Bach to early swing music to contemporary chamber music, funk, and free jazz.

Peter da Silva has performed with Quartet West in the Eastern Regional Division of the Music Teacher’s National Association. He was also selected to perform in the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival as part of the Collegiate All-Stars Big Band led by Warren Wolf. As part of that event, he was also selected to perform in the Collegiate All-Stars Combo that performed at the Kennedy Center. In addition, he has performed with the musicians of Des Moines, Iowa as part of the Brian Martin Big Band where Peter da Silva premiered a feature for alto saxophone and big band at Noce Jazz Club. Within Massachusetts, Peter da Silva has appeared on the only full recording ever of Frank Martin’s Concert Suite From Ein Totentanz Zu Basel Im Jahre 1943 with the Massachusetts Chamber Players, led by Dr. Matthew Westgate. His work as a doubler has also led him to many wonderful theatre companies and programs. Among these was the Barrington Theatre Company where he was part of the team premiering The Royal Family of Broadway, written by William Finn and Rachael Sheinkin (the same team behind 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).”
